Who We Are
The Carolina Locos Baseball Club is more than just a travel baseball organization, we’re a community built around development, competition, and a genuine love for the game.
Our Story
Our journey began in the Fall of 2022 as the Waxhaw Locos, a 7U Challenge team. What started as a single team with a shared vision quickly grew into something more. By the Fall of 2024, we officially launched the Carolina Locos Baseball Club, expanding to five teams ranging from 8U–12U and establishing ourselves as a dedicated, non-profit youth organization.
Why We Started
We created the Locos because we believed there was a better way to do travel baseball.
Like many families, we saw talented kids who wanted more—more competition, more development, and more opportunity. But we also saw an environment that often came with high costs, high pressure, and, too often, less enjoyment for the players.
So we built something different.
Our mission is simple:

Keep the experience affordable and accessible

And most importantly…make sure kids are having FUN
Yes, we train hard. Yes, we compete. Yes, we offer structured development, including access to our own app with drills, workouts, and at-home training resources. But at the end of the day, our number one priority is making sure players enjoy the game.
Because we’ve seen what happens when they don’t.
Too many kids walk away from baseball after spending years (and thousands of dollars) in environments that forget why they started playing in the first place. We believe that when kids are having fun, everything else follows: effort improves, attitudes stay positive, and development happens naturally.
That’s the Locos difference.
As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we are led by a Board of Directors who share this same vision, keeping the focus where it belongs: on the kids.

Our Name: “Locos”
People often ask where the name “Locos” came from, and it’s one of our favorite stories.
Back when the original group of players were 6U All-Stars competing in the Asheville area, the team went out to dinner one night. During the meal, a train passed by and the kids went absolutely crazy, running to wave at it.
To everyone’s surprise, the train actually stopped…then reversed. The engineer got out and waved back to the team, creating a moment those kids will never forget.
With train tracks running through the heart of Waxhaw, the inspiration was clear as we started the Waxhaw Challenge Team in the Fall of 2022.
LOCOS was the perfect fit! It's a nod to locomotives and the town’s railroad roots, but also a reflection of the energy, excitement, and a little bit of that fun, “crazy” spirit that defines our teams.
